Employee Morale: 5 Quick and Easy, Low-Cost Ways
to Increase Employee Motivation

by Harriet Meyerson

Is absenteeism or a lack of positive attitudes a problem in your company? It is amazing how many negative problems can be solved when you do things that improve employee morale. Your employees will get energized with a few simple morale boosters.

Boost employee morale on a daily basis and you will have an employee motivation program that creates happy, loyal, and productive employees. Human resource managers, supervisors, and business owners can use these 5 quick and easy tips for raising morale – on a shoestring budget.

1. Written Appreciation

Send a thank you letter to your employee’s spouse and/or parents raving about your employee’s great qualities. It only takes a few minutes to write a letter that will be treasured forever by your employee.

2. Motivational Moments

Hold a three-minute “Stand Up” office meeting each morning to communicate any changes or special things that may happen during the day, and end your meeting with an inspirational poem, story, or quote. Your employees will start the day with positive energy.

3.  Social Interaction

Provide fun activities where employees can get to know each other better and become friends. For example, have a potluck lunch with employees bringing in favorite childhood foods. Employees take turns talking about their food and their favorite childhood memory.

4. Create a Cheerful Environment

Employees are more productive when they have neat, attractive, and adequate workspace. Encourage employees to decorate their work areas with personal pictures. Bring in fresh flowers, which you can buy at budget prices at the grocery store.

5. Personal Attention

Have regular one-on-one meetings with employees to discuss their work concerns and their career goals. Your employees will feel that you really care when you provide some guidance to help them achieve their career goals.

If you are a manager, supervisor, or business owner, you can take action immediately to raise employee morale.  Choose one of these 5 tips, and begin today.
